Graduate Student, Philosophy
About
I came to the University of Pittsburgh in 2009. I am interested in the ordinary and scientific metaphysics of mentality, and in particular the role of normativity in our practices of characterizing phenomenological, rational-inferential, and cognitive kinds. I also have rewarding side interests in issues in metaethics, social philosophy and philosophical methodology.
Prior to arriving in Pittsburgh I attended Swarthmore College, and I read for a taught MSc in the philosophy of cognitive science at the University of Edinburgh. In my masters dissertation I presented a refined version of Clark and Chalmers' argument for cognitive extension, drawing on the structure of functionalist theories and some empirical work, and defended the argument from a new criticism by Mark Sprevak.
