About
I am a PhD student in the Department of Political Science at the University of Pittsburgh. My fields of study are comparative politics and mass political behavior, and I specialize in political psychology and armed violence. My dissertation looks at the psychological and behavioral impact of violent contexts. Focusing on the case of Mexico, I examine how the recent escalation of criminal violence and rising insecurity in some regions of the country affects citizen perceptions and behavior, and I discuss the implications for democracy. In particular, I investigate whether and how direct and indirect exposure to violent crime influences citizens' perceived risk of victimization and feelings of fear, political participation, and 'fight-or-flight' responses to perceived threats. This project is funded by the Deitrich School of Arts & Sciences and the Drugs, Security, and Democracy Fellowship of the Social Science Research Council.
